It is almost down to the price when I ordered mine in January 2022 (within a few hundred $$$).

Tesla seem to operate on a “this week’s price” strategy. To try and get people to sign up I guess, considering they never advertise.

Is there any plans for them to sort out the geolocation and source of the data connectivity in the car? I had a hell of a time getting my google accounts signed in because it was always a suspicious login being from Aussie, and the USB ports dont work with my yubikeys. Once in gmail I have all the timestamps wrong on the mail.

Also its really unreliable with tidal often freezing for 10-15 seconds between songs and gmail often popping up the countdown before it retries.

Good thing its so cheap because it's not really worth paying much for in its current form.

It's likely a strategy to optimise the profitability of the supply chain.

Having factories underutilised or cars sitting around kills their cashflow. Similarly price rises when demand is high is 100% profit.

Had a weird thing today with the car when getting in to come to work.

Normally, I just walk to it, open the drivers door, get in, push the brake and its all good to go if I have one of my phones with me and the tesla app open.

But today it opened the door for me but when I pushed the brake it wanted me to tap the card, which was in the house so not going to be happening.

I had to open the app up and press start in the controls of the car to get it to let me drive.

Had a software update that happened over the weekend on it so has anyone else had this happen?

@richms This sometimes (rarely) happens with me. I use an iPhone.

What I do is simply open the Tesla app on the phone and suddenly the car will let me drive. I think the app may get suspended after a little while so the key doesn't work.

I was in the car with the app open on both phones and it wasn't letting me drive till I pressed start like if I was starting it for someone else.

Will see what happens when its time to go home if it does it again.

It’s been happening to me a bit lately as well. (Samsung ZFold3)

Cycling the phone’s Bluetooth seems to fix it. In the Tesla app it says “disconnected” when it asks for the key card. That despite the phone showing Tesla as “connected for calls and audio” in the Bluetooth settings.

I have even been locked out of the vehicle when it doesn’t register my phone. Luckily I have got my watch set up as a key as well (hold it against the pillar).

I put it down to Samsung’s aggressive app management, despite me putting the Tesla App in the “never put to sleep” group, I’m wondering if the key is something separate again.

I have just recently ticked over 12 months of ownership of my red M3rwd.

My stats (from car computer) for the 12 months are;

11170km,

1451kWh*,

130Wh/km

From the app

Charging 93% at home, 0% at work and (obviously) 7% “other”.

Since my use of paid and free fast charging effectively cancels out the increased cost of FC over my home tariff, the energy cost has been $336. In my venerable old Camry hybrid that would have equated to $1675.

Insurance was twice as expensive, but I’m covering a $70000 car rather than a $10000 one.

Happiness rating 90%.

My main frustrations are no official certification for towing and I wish the M3 was a “fastback” design rather than having a boot. I have alleviated my need for having a driver’s display by installing an aftermarket HUD.

*Strangely, the app reports my energy usage (charging) at 1601kWh. So 150kWh have “fallen down the back of the couch”.

Awesome stats and great info.

What hud did you install?

We just took delivery of our MY and we are loving it so far. Going from Christchurch to Queenstown this weekend. Looking forward to nerding out on the stats and seeing how it all works out with charging.

Yes, hence my comment about the back of the couch.

10% does seem like quite a lot though.

I'm seriously looking at going for a new Model 3 or Model Y. I rented a Y for a week a month ago, and that was a great car with heaps of space.
I'd love to compare it for interior space with a Model 3, mainly the headroom since I'm a tall fella (6'4"/1.93m).

Is there anyone on here around Palmy with a Model 3 that would be happy to could catch up so I can have a closer look at one? Just for a few minutes or so.

Cheers.

@MilesPNZ: If you haven’t already tried it out, about the best option if you want to ‘nerd out’ on the stats is the app called Tessie. I was a bit sceptical about paying for it, but part-way through my free trial I realised it’s totally worth the cost. It’s quite amazing what info it gathers, but equally it’s useful for providing a much better scheduler for charging. let alone scheduling nearly anything else you want (eg I have it locking the car at night to make sure I’ve not left it unlocked), plus provides a means by which to control the car via Google Home/Assistant.

Here’s a referral code that gets you a month free, if you’re interested: https://share.tessie.com/4F9UAqNTqub

@Mehrts: If you can’t find someone here on GZ in PN with an M3, I know a few via the PN EV FB group who’d most likely be willing to demo their car. Let me know if you’d like me to contact them.

I’ve got an MY, so happy to be involved if you want to do a direct side-by-side comparison at the time. But, yep, there’s quite a difference in interior space - both head space (which doesn’t concern me!) and also rear leg room (as the MY front seats are just M3 seats on risers, as you’ll know there’s the ability for rear passengers to stretch out under the seats). Obviously, if driving performance is more important, then there’s no contest as to which I’d choose (but fitting the family and their crap is always going to trump that for us!)

Note: It is silver which I have covered with matt black paint because the silver reflects in the windscreen too much. The image is after the first paint attempt, I have subsequently done another coat to make it look less sketchy. There are displays that fit in the air vent as well.
