Once again they'd benefit more from expanding and electrifying rail but to be fair some of those rails are reeeeeeeeeally long. I can't see the line to Perth being electrified very easily. Still: the debate in Australia has long been the same as here in NZ. On the one side, people who would like to get trucks off the road for all sorts of reasons, not just because they burn diesel, and on the other, people who want more of them for some reason.

Well, if you can have battery electric trucks stopping to recharge, you can have rail stopping to recharge, where the geography allows it. The currently sensible long haul rail battery systems integrate battery into each carriage-truck.

But yeah diesel rail is way less than diesel trucking so why stretch for long haul electric except passenger maybe.

The cool thing with either, you can run single carriages if you want to. No need to fill an entire train if you ignore drivers and guards for the moment who are technically and practically still required in that configuration at present.

Are there any trains that are both diesel and electric, since the diesel ones are all just driving a generator to power things, to me who knows not much about trains surely they would just have to put the power pickups on the top and put a change over between the generator and the wire above the train to run things, and then they could go anywhere.

BYD seems to be running a bit ahead of schedule. I ordered a Seal at the beginning of March and they told me May-June, so I was not expecting to really hear anything for another few weeks at least. But in fact on Monday they notified me it was here and undergoing handover processing, and I got the registration notification yesterday. However they (Andrew Simms Wairau Park) alone had more than 60 vehicles to work through in this shipment. Seems business is good at the moment!

The counterfactual is that they can go anywhere as a diesel train,

The overhead (to spare a pun) of having electrical gear in addition to the diesel  prime mover just complicates things...

Ferrari have broken the Internet with their first ever EV. Looks like a love child between a Jag iPace and a BYD.

Fortunately I lack $640K USD to throw away on a single car, even if it IS so ugly it screams "I am not only rich enough to buy a Ferrari, I am rich enough to treat it like a joke".

That's like saying that there's no point having a Prius because you can just buy a Corolla.

Prevailing theory is that Ferrari will sell customers these to “get them on the list” for a real Ferrari…

I'd like to out on record that this is the worst looking Ferrari in history (in my opinion).
There's just no realistic need for it to be so awful.
Jonny Ive is wholly responsible for this and he's got a spotty record.

It's basically a huge sedan with sports brand bragging rights. I like all the individual physical controls. The exterior styling with the front aero is brave. It looks ok to me. I'll withhold judgement until I see one in the real.

Apparently the boot space is nearly 600 litres. Imo as long as it can fit a golf club set or two they'll be fine. Haters are gonna hate. Imo they will sell.
