heavenlywild: New model coming folks hence the discount.

I would wait if you can.

I don't think that will be shipping until late this year or early next. Besides, this isn't for existing stock it's for new orders for cars that are yet to be made.

I think this is a reaction to further competition and possibly the reduction of the rebate.

Whatever it is if you can wait 6 months I'd wait.

Then again, the longer one leaves it the greater the chance of the car arriving after the rebate has been withdrawn (if National wins), meaning final cost ends up over $7k higher…

The much lower list price plus a potential opportunity to get the rebate means both the current 3 and Y are a relative bargain - for many people this saving may be worth it over having the newest model (and potentially even the difference between being able to afford it or not).

This is exactly why I decided to jump in while the rebate and low rate home loan top ups were available. There was too much uncertainty over what might happen later in the year, even though I was keen to wait for the updated Model 3.

At the end of the day, I got a great price on my car as well as the full rebate amount, and also get to take advantage of a few months of no RUC's. Couldn't be happier!

A few days delayed posting this, but I picked up this beauty last Tuesday. I'm super stoked with the colour/wheel combo.

Maybe we'll see a few more red ones now that the prices continue to drop.

You do realise that red colour makes any car significantly more likely to attract the attention of the traffic cops and hence get ticketed?

Geesh, aren't you the life of the party(!). It may be true but really does not need to be said especially when someone's stoked about the recent purchase.

Urban myth. A vehicle that being driven in contravention of NZ road laws, is lowered, has a noisy exhaust, is full of young people, has the driver looking in their lap while driving, etc is more likely to attract enforcement attention than the car’s colour. Radar and laser speed detection are essentially set and forget, and as such, are ‘colour blind’.

I have commented on the quality of the red paint on my Model 3 but I still like the colour.

@Mehrts I would advise putting some sort of protection on it, even if it’s ceramic coating you apply yourself. It made a difference to the ‘depth’ of the finish on mine.

Nice red.

I've had a red car for nearly 20 years and based on my experience the colour doesn't attract more police attention.

Very nice! - Congrats. I'm pleased that it finally arrived. I agree, that red/black/silver combo rocks.

Yep, looks great, @Mehrts  - are you generally happy with the car?

The 3 really suits red - much better than the Y (then again, it's pretty hard to polish a t..d...). I also really like the optional wheels you've gone with; again, far better than the induction wheels option for the Y:

What a bloody stupid comment. That's all I'll say about that.

@DingBatt, yep going for a ceramic coating. No one seems to do full front PPF for these things around my area. Only the standard single strip across the lower edge of the bonnet which is pointless really. There are DIY precut kits available from EBay that I'm tempted to try out though.

@jonathan18 Yes I am and thanks. I knew what I was getting into before I bought it, so I was aware of a lot of the quirks. I like having the lighter coloured wheels as they contrast against the car body. I'm personally not a huge fan of the standard rims and aero hubcaps because they're so dark.

Thanks everyone, I'm pretty happy with the upgrade from the old 2001 Mondeo haha.

By the way, if anyone's keen for a manual Mondeo hatchback, silver in colour for $2500, let me know! It'd be a great first car for someone learning to drive manual.

Gidday team

Does anyone know what RUCs for your average weighted EV will be come March? All I can find is circa $75/1000km.

You'll probably have to wait until the government announce what it will be. That value you have is the current light vehicle cost.
