Does anyone know what RUCs for your average weighted EV will be come March? All I can find is circa $75/1000km.

You'll probably have to wait until the government announce what it will be. That value you have is the current light vehicle cost.

Cheers! Will interesting how it’s introduced with KM certification.

From the NZTA website:

"Without the exemption, EV owners would pay RUC at the same rate as all other light RUC vehicles ($76/1,000km)"

I'm very interested to see how PHEV will work considering the government can't monitor when they use Electric vs Fuel

That's why the answer is for all vehicles to pay via RUC. Then it doesn't matter anymore.

Reduce the tax on Fuel then?

Of course as it's a matter of moving all vehicles to be charged on a similar basis; but at least that way it's also relatively easy to set and adjust differentials between different categories of vehicle (eg ICE vs hybrid ICE vs PHEV vs EV...).

No, jack it up; it doesn't have enough tax on it to pay for the pollution. :-/

Realistically though yes, the tax would go down.

My partner's looking at moving on from her Leaf, and is pretty set on getting a base-model MG4; noting this comes in at $41,200 after rebate, I have suggested to her an alternative could be a s/h M3. I get that it's overly optimistic to expect to pay that for an M3, but it looks like there could be some options at around $45k. She doesn't really need the size of an M3, but it would certainly be less compromise in terms of features etc.

Having never contemplated buying a s/h Tesla before, I'm interested to know if there are any 'gotchas' I should be aware of, variants to avoid/look for, or whether it's just a dumb idea I should move on from, so welcome feedback!

For example, obviously most of the more affordable M3s tend to be as old as 2019 (eg this car) - I get they'll have some aesthetic differences (eg chrome), will have an old processor etc, but are there specific reasons why I should look at/avoid this era car? (That the warranty has two fewer years on it is enough to make me wary.) Or is it more sensible to look for something more recent like this 2021 car

Thanks!

2021 was the cutover from US to Chinese manufacturing for NZ/OZ M3s ..

I think the general conclusion was that the Shanghai build quality was better than Freemont  (US)

I would very much prefer an LFP battery I think they started in '21

Yeah, I get that; it’s one of the reasons we’re thinking of the base-model MG4. Then again I look at the battery health of my own Model Y, which has apparently dropped a good amount in exactly 366 days of ownership. I get it’s a single piece of annecdata but…

Back to the 3 - noting the earlier comment re Chinese-made 3s started coming in from 2021, does that align with the move to LFPs, or did that that not happen a bit later? I’m pretty sure the earlier Chinese ones weren’t LFP…

TBH, I’m at the point like I got fairly quickly with my wife’s Leaf; it’s just better to not even check as it’s a bit depressing!  But I gave in and checked…

That’s after less than 13,000km. How’s yours looking?

@jonathan18 that’s more of an estimate but you can do a proper test from the service menu if you’re keen on seeing. As your car has a LFP battery you need to charge it to 100% every week.

Mine - which is a NCA battery being a long range model 3 is sitting at 96% in Tessie which sounds about right. I have not done a full test from the service menu. I’m up to 38,000km too.

It usually flattens alot out after the first year so don't be too worried.
