None of those proxies have nuclear weapons. Israel next door has 90, US its ally has over 5,000 nukes, what are they all really worried about then. Could it be control of oil? Venezuela a good example.

If I was Iran, I’d be the one worried about Israel or the US bombing me with a nuclear weapon which is something that has already been threatened many times.

it’s simply not sensible for USA or Israel to nuke Iran and neither has an official policy that Iran should be destroyed.
Trump has little international support but one thing he does is over Iran not having nukes. Iran is a totalitarian theocratic state with a self stated opinion that Israel should be wiped out. It simply cannot be trusted with nukes.

Has this thread morphed into a discussion of Middle East and US geopolitics? Seems to have wandered off topic for the past few pages.

NOBODY can be trusted with nukes! Just because they haven't been used yet is no kind of guarantee at all. Putin has mused about it as the Ukrainians keep making him look like a fool. If a disintegrating military and sanctions and international opinion push him far enough into a corner he might well decide what the hell and just go for it. A frustrated tyrant is a dangerous tyrant!

Agree totally. Although oil and politics are very closely aligned, arguing won’t change anyone’s established world view which is one of the reasons keeping friends is more important. Thus the old adage of no politics or religious discussions in social scenes. Sadly our opinions won’t ever change the world and thus are irrelevant to the grand scheme hoisted upon us be the powerful.

Responding nearly burnt down the kitchen. I was still on topic though because I was heating OIL. Alarms screaming and smoke you could snip through with hedge shears.

…its proxies such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis who are simply an extension of Iran.

This has been the Israeli talking point for so long that many simply accept it as true. It ignores that they are three very different organisations with different goals.

They are all close Iranian allies and will often act as directed by Iran but they won’t act against their own interests.

It’s unsurprising that Israel positions them that way. Hamas and Hezzbollah came into being because of Israeli occupation and invasion. They are terrorist organisations but the simplistic positioning ignores Israel absolute complicity in their existence.

I hear oil attracts avaricious idiots with orange skin. Be careful.

Oh come on. They are dependent on Iran for money, intelligence and weapons. There's no way Hamas runs a major operation such as Oct 7 without Quds Force support and approval.

It might surprise you to know Israel was instrumental in the establishment of Hamas and supported then in Gaza for many years to weaken the PLO as part of their divide and rule policy.

Hamas is a Sunni organisation and gets monetary support from many countries. One of the major excuses given for the Qatar blockade was their support of Hamas and Hezbollah. Israel turned a blind eye to this for years as it suited them.

It’s a complex and highly dynamic region which you want to distill down to fortune cookie wisdom. It’s the same problem the USA has had, looking at the region from a very simplistic lense.
