For some background on why we're not going to see prices come back down to Feb 2026 levels I can recommend a very recent interview with Professor Jefferey Sachs.

In essence Sachs sees America's problems primarily as self-inflicted consequences of an overextended foreign policy, excessive military spending, political capture, and unsustainable debt. He argues that Trump's policies are not reversing American decline but accelerating it.

Therefore the Iranians will retain control of the SoH and remain an important player in world energy markets and there is nothing the US can do to stop this.

So back to the topic of this thread "Fuel prices and security of supply"? Fuel prices will remain elevated to prices prior to March 2026, and supply will remain fragile. The difference is being made up by withdrawals from reserves currently, which will need to be replaced putting upward pressure on price.

Complete and easily digested analysis of the current oil & gas situation by Ed Conway. Obviously impacts our liquid fuel pricing in the future but also serious implications on LNG prices.

mudguard:

Glad my old car has a full tank of 98 😬

Until you have to refill.

I caught up with an ex workmate  yesterday for a beer.

He said his diesel Q7 has a 1000km range  but the qualified it that has a 100 litre tank. Even at farm prices that  is $250.

He's doing the sums on a Leaf ,  reckons he will save 200/week,  $10k per year.

The times are changing.  We could have been better  prepared  as a nation, but that will be a question  to be answered  in November.
