I'm renting a car in the US, cheap base rate, but, was unsure about the insurance add-on's I need. Usually I've taken them all due to confusion.

My opinion after a bit of research is that you should always take Loss damage waiver (LDW) and Supplemenatry Liability insurance (SLI) options.

I discovered additional info too, such as LIS insurance which is always included by law but varies state-to-state and sometimes covers very little.

My own travel insurance company were oddly clueless about US car rental insurance options. I'd have thought it is a common question.  I rang another company and got the info I needed though.

And, don't get me started about Californias new child car seat laws!!

I'll be doing a two-week US roadtrip next year and have started looking at rental cars out of LAX, and associated insurance. It is indeed a minefield but it does appear that LDW and SLI should be sufficient, combined with 'ordinary' travel insurance to cover all eventualities.

I'll probably end-up going with Budget, they are cheapest by far and do provide the options on-line of including these insurances when you make the booking. On the flip-side though, some reviews on their LAX facility are scathing, long queues, rude staff and always looking to sting you with extra charges.

Has anyone experienced this? Also, Budget offer a pay-now option, i.e. paying on-line in advance rather than at the counter, has anyone used this? How did it work out?

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
