My car has been sitting on hold for awhile, and while on hold has sat on the driveway, not too far from the sea, so get a lot of salt spray in the air. So has developed a bit of surface rust.
Anyway, I am quite happy to get under the car and clean it off and then spray rust killer, plus rubber coating or primer. But does anyone know if I spray rust killer, will it affect any rubber components under the car?

It would depend on the rust killer, if its brush on and wash of rust killer then yes it will damage rubber, plastic and paint.

I would speak to someone at your friendly automotive store and see what they recommend. I have seen some rust kill paints which include rust killers which don't affect rubber and even one paint which has fish oil in it to help with moisture.
