There is a cut over date with those where the AC screen won't work if the head unit is not attached. There is tonnes of info online about this if you do a bit of a google search. My old flatmate ended up buying a module that allowed him to plug in an iPod to the existing head unit as it was going to be too much hassle to swap over.
