Yesterday I filled up in Whangarie and paid $1.699 a litre for 91 ... why when I look out of my window here do I see 91 selling for $1.999 a litre ?

Does a 34,000 litre fuel tanker really cost $10,000 to drive from Marsdon Point to the Auckland ?

Or is there some extra Auckland tax that the petrol stations have to pay ?

Just curious :-)

Seems high for Auckland. Pretty sure I paid $1.99 for 91 in Dunedin a couple of days ago.

You clearly are buying fuel at the wrong place, Quite a few places around Auckland have fuel in the 1.70 - 1.80

A pipeline transports it from Whangarei to Auckland FYI.

Yup, there is huge variation in Auckland. It's not unusual to see a 15-20 cent difference per litre within a 15 minute drive of each other.  Try the mobil\Z and Gull on Ti Rakau Drive - Last time I drove past them they seemed to be in engaged in a bit of a price war.

Filled up this week at Pak'n'save Wairau, $1.81 for 95, no voucher. Other bonus is you don't have to deal with anyone :-)

I thought Auckland had a special fuel tax as well, to help fund all the roading there. Could be wrong, or mght have been long ago.

$1.99 for 91? You go to the wrong petrol station I think! I pay less than that for 98 at Mobil. North Shore.

A chance perhaps for embody to develop an app that goes off your Geo location for the best price in your location ??

Or is there something like this already out there ??

Individual stations can set their own prices. So unless the data for the app is user provided I can't see this happening.

You should check out Waze. My experience is that the petrol prices there are kept updated, even at a small little town like Napier.

My problem with it at the moment is that it crashes on launch on my iPhone  :(

Hmmm .. lots of replies of "I get it way cheaper at xxxxxx" .. problem is how much would I spend getting to those places in order to save ? :-)

Plus firing up Waze while on the North Shore the lowest price I see for values updated in the past day in the area is $1.816 ... still quite a bit more than up north.  Someone mentioned there might be a "road tax" for Auckland ?  Anyone know if that's true ?
