I just want to get some feedback here, if someone has used these kind of deals or if you have used this specific deal in particular.
How did it go, was it worth it, how much extra's did the mechanic make you spend ( in 99% of the cases its like a bait scenario )
$39 for an automotive servicing package incl 3 services, 2 WOFs, wheel balance, transmission flush & front or rear disc pad replacement, 6 locations Auckland wide (worth up to $868)
KMart Auto... the equivalent of Pitstop and MIDAS in NZ... (not to say all franchises... but many)
"Back in The Day" when I was on the tools, we used to joke about being rogues... dusting air filter top cover (yeah, that's how long ago... yikes) and telling our co-workers to charge out a full reconditioned engine on the invoice. I had a couple of bosses that wouldn't have minded us actually doing that one little bit too but we workshop staff kept them honest.
Of course that was in smaller shops where the mechanics actually had direct contact with the customers and even did our own invoicing.
Even if they managed to get the best trade price on parts just the trans fluid and pads are >$39, and really do you want to run bog standard cheap pads and no name bulk trans fluid in your car ?
Alot of those so called "services" are just checks, and you end up paying extra for all the fluid top ups and the myriad of things they will inevitably reccomend ie
- new air filter - oil change - clutch fluid - brake fluid - spark plugs - wheel alignment - new tyres
As said above, no free lunch when it comes to servicing cars.
