Yes.

When you take a car for a test drive they SHOULD get you to fill out a form that makes you responsible for any damage to the vehicle and take a copy of your license. I understand this is also for their insurance cover.

If they didn't then this was still the dealer's car and someone else destroyed it, so I would imagine damages would be a police matter?

I've only been on the customer side of this so dunno about the specifics.

That having been said who knows if they will ever get any money out the person in particular.

Ive never been asked to sign anything taking a car for a test drive from a dealer....  usually leave them with a child instead...maybe they figure Ill be back. "Didnt say it was MY kid"
