I'm looking at getting a 2012 Mazda CX-5 and was wondering if there was anywhere in auckland that could replace the Japanese head unit with an android 4.4 or above head unit.

Wanting a android head unit so I can load up google play music.

Also would want to keep steering wheel control support and reversing camera.

I'm not sure the exact CX-5 model I'll be getting, theres a few around and will probably settle on one in the next week or so.  Availability of a headunit could influence my decision on which one to get.

Also are there any ones that come with SIM card support?

Theres a few on trademe, but googling for a head unit replacement in auckland comes up with too many generic Pioneer etc ones that aren't android but support android phones.

There is some good info in this thread:

Might be just as easy to grab one from overseas.

Aliexpress head units

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Cheers, I was looking at ebay, but I have no skills or knowledge at how to install these.   So was hoping for an installer in auckland who did this, sure it will cost me extra, but if I stuff it up completely that will end up costing me more :)

I highly recommend SoundAround on Swanson Road.  They are an amazing friendly bunch.  Very professional and helpful.  They are popular as hell though for that very reason, so you need to make an appointment. :)

Can't you get the Parrot Asteroid (I think the model is) at any car stereo place?  I know abtec down here sell them, and fitting should be like any normal stereo.

You'll probably also need a fascia kit - qualitycaraudio.co.nz see to have a good range at pretty good prices.

Here is one for the CX-5 up to 2011: http://www.qualitycaraudio.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&path=151_291&product_id=2190

If you get all the parts, any installer should be able to put it together for you - the Parrot kit mentioned above is supposed to be pretty good.

Although if I was able to change stereo in my car I'd probably go for a double din apple carplay/android auto compatible model.

Me too. I'm looking at the Pioneer double din AV units at the moment. I don't know if I can stretch to CarPlay, but they all have AppShare, which is close.
