I was in the Volvo/Land Rover/Audi/Porsche dealer yesterday so they could finish some pre-delivery work on my Land Rover that was awaiting a part which had arrived.

I came across an amazing product by Volvo - Life Paint. It comes in small spray cans and is a completely invisible paint that can be applied to anything.

What is the point of invisible paint, you ask?

Ah - here is the clever part. At night, when car headlights etc shine on it, it lights up like 3M Scotchlite fabric!

You can spray it on anything - cycle helmets, back packs, clothes, bike frames, running jerseys, running shoes, dog collars etc etc.

Brilliant, eh?

There was a thing about this on the news that showed it in action. I think it might come off in the rain and it's suitable for most fabrics.

The video on this page is good - it really shows how well the paint works.

It is water based and has a life of about a month, according to that website. If I was a cycle commuter, I'd be buying that stuff in boxes!

I got an email from Volvo about it a while back but didn't take much notice...thought they were trying to get me to repaint my Volvo!

Looks like a brilliant idea. As Volvo are so well known for their safety credentials, it's a good fit with their brand, too.

I sprayed it on my bike and it grew massive bumpers at each end?

Volvo jokes aside, that's very cool, I will pass it onto my death wish cycling mates.

Nah, if they did that they'd have to offer everyone safety gear of some kind (and we'd all be paying even more for ACC), better that cyclists recognise they are at risk and take steps to reduce it as much as they can for themselves. Though if bicycles had an ACC levy on them then maybe it could come from that ?

As a motorist who pays ACC levy I would have no problem with a few dollars of that going on saving lives. We waste enough on pointless things like plastic wakas, rugby matches and plastic clouds.

Besides, no doubt most cyclists work and pay ACC levy as part of their employment in any case.
