I know that there are a few late model Mazda owners here, and I'm wondering whether anyone has managed to get the live traffic feature working, particularly with an iPhone.

I was hoping that the system would be able to get connectivity through bluetooth since I have already paired my iPhone, but the handbook gives the impression that it needs wifi connectivity. So, this morning I tried setting my iPhone to hotspot mode but when attempting to connect the Mazda system it mucks around for a minute or two and eventually fails. I've made a couple of attempts at retyping the wifi password with no success and I'm conscious of the case sensitivity, so I'm quite confident that a wrong password is not the culprit.

Any ideas?

I tried to connect my car (GLX model) to my phones 3G via tethering.
It did not like it and I have tried again.

Being a GLX model, I do not have the navigation package installed (ie, no SD card)

I think I've found a workable solution. I went to a 2degrees store yesterday and bought a tiny 4G wifi router for $150. I can leave this permanently plugged into one of the two USB ports in the centre storage cubby so that it charges whenever the ignition is on.

Even if the iPhone had worked, I suspect that I would have to manually enable the hotspot feature every time I get in the car. The portable router, on the other hand, seems to wake up and connect whenever the ignition is turned on without needing any user intervention.

I've got a 2015 CX-9. Never seen any settings about live traffic updates but would be keen to know more about it. What model do you have?
