Just venting on this one. I find it incomprehensible some people decide to park in the various transit lanes around Auckland right after the closure time. Both mornings and evenings..

It happens quite a lot on Auckland's busiest roads and even though the lanes officially close at 9 AM, traffic is still quite considerable at that time. The bottleneck a parked vehicle causes by buses having to move around it adds a huge amount of delay to the traffic backing up further down the road.

I know technically there is nothing illegal about parking in a transit lane at 09.01, but people doing this must realise the hassle they're causing by doing so.

I suppose extending the official hours of the T-lanes would take care of this problem but that wouldn't necessarily reduce vehicle loads because around this time using two or more lanes for traffic is very efficient to clear up the morning jams.

It's incomprehensible that people buy your undervalued house and sells it for 200k more the next hour, or buy up all the houses outside of Auckland now that they can't afford the 40% deposit in AKL. Better talk to the newspaper about this ...

What I find incomprehensible is that we expect councils to provide car parking on roads. If you wanted to suggest something useful to the governing bodies, I'd suggest that T2 T3 lanes should be available 24/7 for TRAFFIC. In fact why aren't all arterials four-laned in this day and age? The cost of providing a road capable of bearing the loading of heavy vehicles is considerable, and we allow people to park their miserable motorcycle on it for free? What a waste of a resource.

I have no problem with people legally parking their cars, but it is annoying when people block bus / transit lanes 5 - 10 mins before their end time gambling that the won't get caught. The bus lane on quay street (a 24/7 bus lane with yellow dotted lines), has major issues with heavy vehicles (mostly trucks but also busses) parking in it. Especially annoying in the morning peak (and dangerous for two wheeled road users).

Most bus lanes in auckland have seriously deficient hours. Let's face it, on routes like dominion road rush hour extends well past 6pm

Valid point, I don't disagree. Maybe get rid of the parking altogether.

How long do you think people should wait after the legal 'OK to park now' time for their unreasonable parking to be morally ok? Maybe I'm an unsociable meany but if it says ok to park from 9:00 am, I would not hesitate to park there.

TBH I think you are expecting or asking too much.

Interestingly I think I agree with all posters so far!

If it's legal at 9 I'd have no issue doing so, but agree also that ALLOWING parkingon arterials at all is rather silly too :)

I know that Auckland Transport is currently reviewing the bus lane times etc so hopefully some good progress will be made on this soon.

To a lot of people they do not care about  the T2/3 lanes, in our area vehicles with one person in it often use the T lanes early in the morning rush hour

IMO roads like onewa on the shore and others that are similar should be no parking any side of it at any time. If they must allow parking then extend the no parking on the busy site till 11:30 and then let people have an hour to move their car and the site coming back has no parking from 1:30. But really expecting the council to maintain parking there is absurd.

True that - but it's a different point to the one the OP is trying to make.

True, but if you get stung by the camera it's a $150 fine. Either way after the official operating hours close (in most cases 7AM to 9AM and 4PM to 6PM) that extra bit of road dramatically speeds up the flow of traffic because you've got 2 lanes instead of 1... unless someone parks in them :P

There are huge traffic jams because there's one lane in use while a T3 lane sits empty. They'd get more use if they were T2. A T3 lane is effectively a bus only lane.

Drivers who dont use the T2/T3 lanes, when empty, during the non T2/T3 times, but try and merge into one non T2/T3 lane at the beginning of the T2/T3 start lanes.

Constellation Drive ....
