From an Australian Insurance company:

"[Australian ]Allianz car insurance survey finds half of male drivers distracted by attractive women while driving.

A survey done by Allianz car insurance has found that over half of male drivers confess that good-looking women steal their attention away from what is happening on the road while they are driving.

The survey gives an insight into how easily distracted men are by the opposite sex when driving. Of the 1425 men and women who responded to the survey, 50.9% of men admitted they are distracted by a good-looking woman while driving. This staggering proportion of dangerously distracted men was in dramatic contrast to the 15.2% of women who confessed to taking a peek at handsome men.

It's an alarming fact but not one that would immediately spring to mind when considering all the things that can break a driver's concentration, such as mobile phones ringing, avoiding bus lanes and trying to drown out insufferable backseat drivers. To many people these would all seem to be probable causes for distraction, but the excuse of seeing a hot guy or girl almost seems comical.

Well, the survey suggests otherwise and instead shows that attractive people - for both male and female drivers - are in fact a cause of distraction for 34% of respondents.

When it comes down to it, men are just as likely to stare at the ladies whether they are single or taken. 54.2% of our surveyed bachelors agreed that women can steal their attention away from the road and a similarly high 49.5% of men in committed relationships made the same confession! On the flip side, girlfriends and wives are half as likely to be distracted by attractive men (12.5%) as their single friends (21.3%).

--A better view from inside a luxury car--

What happens when salary comes into the equation? Of the males that chose to disclose their annual incomes, 58.9% of men earning $100,000 or more are distracted by women whilst behind the wheel as compared to the 43.4% who earn less than $50,000 per annum. Why is that so? Perhaps everything looks clearer from a convertible with the top down. Or maybe it's the complete opposite and expensive vehicles with tinted windows make sneaky peeks easier."

...are distracted by a good-looking woman while driving. This staggering proportion of dangerously distracted...

Clickbait BS... how do they extrapolate "dangerously"?

Yeah... insurance providers are a piece of work.  Did you know that on your health insurance you are supposed to receive a receive a reduction in your rates if you declare that you quit smoking.  Yeah right but, if you chew Nicotine gum, wear a patch, or take in nicotine in any form, they will not give you the reduction because statistically, as an ex-smoker, you are likely to return to smoking.  If you purchase health insurance after a certain age, the provider will require a standard physical.  Part of that physical will be a blood test to determine if you have nicotine in your system.  If you do not smoke yet, live with a smoker or work in close proximity to smokers, and their smoke is sufficient to appear in your blood work... Bzzzt... You will pay smoker's rates.

So... if a provider can find a reason to raise your rates or deny your claim... rest assured they will :)  That article you posted didn't surprise me at all.

It's the old "you must give 100% of your attention to the road" argument that some believe in.  See also the thread about hands-free phones

I hate insurance compamies also.

I remember seeing a US company called Liberty National Insurance with a 11 meter bronze Statue of Liberty with a working torch on top of a 18 meter granite pedestal. Has anyone ever come across a cash-strapped insurance company?

However my guess is most accident involving watching the ladies are going to be rear-end accidents, hopefully mostly slow speed.

Assuming that the case, I think world-wide rear-end accident trailing car will almost always be partially negligent, and usually fully negligent.

There's only a couple of reason why a rear-ender wouldn't be the trailing cars fault, such as someone reversing into you or fails to have working tail-lights.

hmm.. so, 'attractive women' should be banned from the roads as it increases the chance of an accident? Pretty sure thats what the article reads...

So I propose that there would be a much lower crash rate in the Muslim Arab nations due to the absence of this particularly dangerous distraction...?

How do you prove that the tail-lights were working pre-accident?  I see a good number of cars about whose lights just simply do not work.

When the filament breaks when it is on, it forms a little molten glob on the end of the filament because of the temperature of the filament at the time of fracture..

If the filament is off, and the filament breaks, then it's just broken.

I saw this at a open day at the DSIR in Mt Albert a few decades ago :-)

Unless, of course, the filament broke some time pre-accident while the light was on. And assuming that the taillight actually has a filament. ;)

Men on lower incomes tend to be retired or young and riding the bus?
