Prompted by another thread that I didn't want to steer off course. With Holden Australia shutting most of its production and an end of era is approaching I thought it would be interesting to recall the Holdens folks have owned.

Here are mine....

Holden Kingswood HQ and HZ

Holden Commodore VK, VL, VN, VS, VT, VZ, VE

Holden Captiva

My wife has owned...

Holden Vectra

Holden Barina

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I have owned 3 white Holden Astras:

The first one was written off shortly after purchase in 2007, in the Newcastle (NSW) floods.

The second one was written off shortly after purchase when it was T boned in 2011.

I tried going for the hat-trick, but I managed to own the 3rd one for a good 6 months without writing it off.

When I was a kid, my mum owned an old 60's Kingswood wagon with bench seat/column shift. It was the good old days when people still left the keys in the ignition most of the time. When I was about 5 years old I climbed in and started her up. Unfortunately it was in gear so I drove it into the side of the house. I wasn't very popular.

It must be said I don't have much joy with Holdens to be honest.... Although to be fair at around about the same age I filled the fuel tank of my dad's Mk II Jag with water. I thought I was helping lol.

Dad had a VL and then a VT. Back in the day, Grandpa had a white Kingswood station wagon, I think it was an HQ. Red vinyl that gave you 3rd degree burns in summer. Then it got stolen.

Sad to see them go. What will cops use instead?

I'm a big fan although historically haven't owned many. At this point in time I own:

2003 VY Commodore Acclaim
2005 V2 series 3 Monaro
2009 VE SSV Sportswagon

I love all my holdens - especially the Monaro!

90's Holden Astra - Bought it for a daily car so i didnt have to run my S4 every day. Started to miss fire and i couldnt be bothered fixing it so we demo derby'd it at the local grass field.
06 Holden Astra, Given to me by my mother last year when she moved to aussie in Jan. Spent a bit on it put a new coil pack in, plugs, oil, cv boots, brakes. Decided to blow the ECU and write itself off.

Dont buy an astra.

1993 VP HSV5000i Senator

Sold it in 2002 just before my son was born. Nearly bought it back again in 2013/2014 when I saw it on trademe but just couldn't afford it. Still my favourite car of all time. Exhaust rumble that tripped car alarms in a parking garage was always good for the lols.

2001 Vectra 2.2 - Dead boring but functional enough

2003 Holden Lumina - Decent enough but quickly ran out of torques

First and last was a new Camira. Probably worst car ever. Still remember having to push start it as a kid, and remember all the exterior chrome trims falling off. Probably a good thing they are moving production, but I still wouldn't buy another, even if they have improved. I stick to actual Japanese made, such as Toyota and Mazda. Maybe boring, but at least they are very reliable and good to drive.

2006 VE SS-V  - Current car and enjoy it a great deal :)

Pondering what to replace it with as it's getting a little old / high ks @ 180k - possibly VF SS Redline or R8 if I can stomach the price....

Partner has a Cruze SRi

PS: Well impressed with some of the older vehicles some of you have owned :)

My first car was a 79 VB Commodore, brown with a poo-brown interior - it was super classy. I bought it for $1000, kept it for 4 years and spent almost nothing on it and then sold it for $750 - the smallest loss I've ever made on a car.

I then bought a 97 VS Commodore Berlina, completely unreliable and put me off Holdens forever.

Well my Dad had the best Holden on the planet,

When he was 20 something surfing the gold coast with my Mum (both surfed) you would find him in one of these
