"In an embarrassing sign of the times, the new Porsche Cayenne S Diesel safety car to be used for the 2017 Supercars season [in Australia] has somehow managed to be sign written, professionally photographed and then those photographs released to media without anyone realizing it says 'SAFTEY CAR' in big, bold letters down its flanks."

"Porsche’s course cars haven’t always had an easy time in the Supercars championship, Shane Van Gisbergen infamously taking out the Panamera medical car at the 2012 Sydney race when his steering failed at an inopportune moment."

This story is now a few weeks old. There was some speculation at the time that it was a PR stunt - other pictures taken on the same side of the vehicle don't show the error. It's something I would tend to agree with.

Considering Porsche have taken over the safety car role what better way to get some free publicity and guaranteed coverage in every automotive website, news site, and extensive social media coverage. Everybody who cares about cars now knows Porsche are the V8 supercars safety car provider. Had this incident not occurred I'd doubt anybody would have known as the change would have barely got a mention.
