Just wondering if you are using an electric scooter and if so, any recommendations or advice you have for someone looking to buy.

I'm based in wellington so there's no physical store selling e scooters to try before I buy.

Thank you

Most electric scooters I've seen are from China. Frankly build quality hasn't been great.

Here's an article called "Why electric motorcycles are falling flat in New Zealand"

http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/bikes/80581364/why-electric-motorcycles-are-falling-flat-in-new-zealand

You could check out this NZ based website called "love electric motorcycles"

Or you may consider an electric assisted bicycle, as it may be more pratical.

The 2x2 Farm bike from New Zealand company Ubco is kind of cool, in it's own way.

Unfortunately not yet street legal, and really made for running in dirt.

Are you thinking electric version of a nifty 50 to ride to work, or like a razor scooter with electric boost for a shorter commute or to get you to the bus/train?

A geeky mate of mine bought a cheap Chinese electric scooter in the mid to late 00's and loved it. He regularly commuted across Auckland on it (40 or 50 kms). It had 4 or 5 lead acid 12volt batteries in it.

The charger had a melt down, but he built a faster, better regulated charger.

He dismantled it to add regenerative braking, found the wiring looked a bit dicey and completely rewired it.

A few years later he decided to upgrade it but found the importer had gone bust - apparently a lot of the others had bust into flames due to the dodgy chargers and wiring!

I went through the list and only 4 (out of a total of 51) showed as currently in production. That's a poor strike rate by any reckoning.

The below ad showed up viewing this thread, May be useful?

On another note saw someone royally eat the curb around 30-40kph on one going down lake road into devonport. I'd suggest it ISNT used on a public road as this darwin award nominee used it for.
