I'm looking at fitting a alarm system to a Gen 2 Model X Leaf

Has anyone got feed back on whats a good system and any gotchas with it?

Check and make sure it doesn't already have one.

My own LEAF nearly scared the life out of me when an alarm went off when I walked away having locked it with a window down.

The LEAF has a security system of sorts. I've never broken into to test it out. :-)

Good point

They said it had an imobiliser so I just assumed thats all it was

I will give it a test somewhere deserted ( its probably not a good idea to do it round home... ( not at 6am anyway )

Thanks

When I bought my gen2 UK leaf the dealer made a specific point on showing me the alarm deactivate button near the mirror and telling me not to leave family/dog inside the car with doors locked...

I think like any recent car it has an immobilizer, certainly it cannot start/run without the transponder key. Wouldn't worry too much about whether it has an alarm.

The problem is an Imobiliser doesent sound any alarm if someone breaks in to steal stuff in the boot etc..

Yes I know you shouldnt keep stuff in the boot etc.. but there are times if in town etc.. where it is required.

Nobody will steal a Leaf.

They will have still smashed your window or what have you before the alarm goes, which everyone is likely to ignore anyway.

However I don't imagine it would be different from any other car, the Leaf's 12v system is fairly standard.

Park car in empty car park and lock. Take brick which you have bought along with you and throw through said leafs window , If a piercing noise emits from your car it would be safe to safe it has an alarm.
