I need an air con compressor for a Toyota Alphard Hybrid. Unfortunately the part alone is $2,700 or so + GST from Toyota. With fitting, probably around $3000 + GST.

The part has to come from Toyota Japan as none here.

I wondered if anyone knew of a specialist either here or overseas that might supply one from a write off or whatever?

Is it a 200V DC one? I'd agree with first seeing if it can be rebuilt.

It's a special compressor for that vehicle which has it's own motor. This means that the compressor is driven by the engine when it is running but by it's own motor when the engine is not running. I'm not sure who in NZ would be equipped to repair such a thing - Toyota won't.

I'm sure they won't - it'll be a straight exchange for a genuine - factory warrantied - unit.
As @blakamin has pointed out you can likely source a non OEM one much cheaper (just don't ask Toyota to install it for you)

If you were really stuck there'd likely be a have-a-go auto a/c compressor (or even alternator) rebuild place that would take a shot at it.
As long as it didn't make any horrible noises before it died.. and they can get rebuild parts, it's probably not that complicated internally...

Tried these guys today. No dice. Unlikely to get it either.
