Cheapest is sometimes not the best.
The savings on alignment may offset gas mileage or tire wear if not done by a professional.
Just sayin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thats the standard price at the likes of Bridgestone Select. I paid $65 there cause we get a discount from my employer.

You should go and get a quote for balancing, aligning and corner balancing a Porsche at Giltraps :)

Those machines are worth a lot of money, Takes anywhere from 20 minutes up to an hour to work on a car. If you invested nearly 40K in a hoist and all the equipment to align wheels then you'd see $95 as a deal :)

I think I have paid $160 for a wheel alignment in the past. $95 is a good price.

Sometimes you see specials at $65, or daily deal site vouchers for a little less if you want to go that way. Nor sure if there are any in your area, but as an example:

95 is about right.

Often i'll get alignments in with other work being done and they will often discount it right down.

Hmmmm, it's a bit more than I thought they were (20 years / 450000km driving), never had a wheel alignment so was unaware the cost.

My new car has "cost free motoring", but it's compulsory to get wheel alignment done, and it's not included in the free servicing. So I guess the unnecessary wheel alignment covers cost of servicing which will be minimal.

$95 is too cheap. What you get is ‘alignment by the process’ and not a specialist who knows what he/she is doing and can deliver a precise outcome.

You don't want cheap. You want good. It may or may not be cheap.

How often should a wheel alignment be done?

Don't go to a franchise-style tyre shop... All most of them do is adjust the toe (there might be exceptions, but not many... they get minimum wage and the boss wants to sell tyres).

Every year... parts wear. Causes tyre wear, which causes parts wear...

Or at the very least, when you get new tyres.

It's often recommended annually, or every 10,000km.

But I don't think the cost and effort is worth it, so I just get on when I get a new set of tires (Don't want to wear out the new tires too fast).

If you have any components changed like ball joints you need a new alignment.

I would also recommend it if you car deals with any substantial impact to the wheel (i.e. mounting a kerb at high speed, or striking an extremely deep pothole)
