I’ve been using an iPhone with Sync3 and it works really well for voice control (text messages). I don’t bother with CarPlay and the USB cable - just use Bluetooth. I use the steering wheel voice button to activate Siri (long press) and occasionally a short press to control Sync.

I’m looking at an Android phone now. Can anyone confirm the steering wheel voice button will activate Google Assistant?

Primary use is for sending and replying to test messages by voice.

Depending on which phone you buy, it *may work. There is a very clunky Bluetooth Launch app available to get it working if it doesn't work out of the box for you.

*Samsung has Bixby which needs to be overridden if you're wanting Google assistant.
