I'm looking to install a dashcam in my Nissan Leaf. There is a wee device labelled ETC - I'm wondering what this is for and if it's not essential and can carry some power could I wire my dash cam to the cable.

I use a Navman dashcam and just plug the wire into the 12v slot.  Yeah.....messy.....but I don't use the camera all the time, so it's easy to toss it into the glove box when not wanted.

I'm thinking of routing the cable along roof to drivers front pillar and under dash to 12v port iniddle console but I am a little nervous as that front pillar has a drivers air bag.

?how safe is it to lever up the edge to hide the cable behind?

I've done it twice, it's fine as they pop right off, just don't use excessive force or dash it too hard, if you are worried disconnect the car battery. It's also best to do it via the passenger side depending on your car.

I ended up following these instructions- https://youtu.be/j1RKFrceH84

As the fuses are on the passenger side it looks like an easy update to wire it in there.
