Hi
If just got a new hilux and noticed it has the same terrible stereo as my mother's yaris.
For some reason in the hilux, pressing the pwr button on the stereo just mutes it. The fan and touch button lights continue to annoy me when driving at night.
Holding the pwr button causes it to reboot.
Does anyone know how how to turn it off without turning the car off?

Sureley there will be brighness controls under general>display?

All my cars have had back lit audio controls even when the unit is off....

I think your problem is going to be during the day, when its bright and your display needs cranking up.

If this is a brand new car, then suggest the manual is given a flick through but then I would be rasing it with the dealer if theres no option to quickly turn off the display and on again (perhaps they can log it with Toyota and the more people that complain maybe they will  push out a firmware update.

The lights on the stereo are probably connected directly to the dashboard lighting circuit. See if it has a remote output for controlling an external amplifier. Use that to switch a relay. And use the relay to control the lighting power feed to the head unit.

And if you want a way of completely turning it off. Then you will need to install a switch into the ACC wire to the head unit. But check that it doesn't have a red flashing light when the ignition is turned off.

Can confirm the manual says you have to go into settings then select turn display off, but the touch lights stay on.

When I hold the power button and it reboots, for about 1 second the whole thing shuts off including the touch lights, screen and the fan noise it makes - goes completely dead, but then it starts booting up again.

I am thinking i might need to splice into the ACC wire and put a button switch into one of the blanks below it on the dashboard.

Have also been looking for an android head unit for it but the only ones I can find have the surrounding dash shape for the left hand drive version of the car :-(

I really miss my android head unit
