Hi

I am looking for recommendations on where to service a Honda Fit 2006, looking for a full service specifically to check the transmission and gearbox.

I have a quote from Honda to do it for $350 but they still list replacing parts and doing other checks to the total value of $980...

Midas list their full service for $230 but that is just a service.

I'd take it to any reputable mechanics workshop. I'd avoid the dealer for an older basic car like such.
I use CauseWay Automotive on Barrys Point Road for any work I can't do myself.

Might be useful to mention Location, What you want to spend, what you think is wrong or why do you want to do a gearbox service? If it redlines itself and slips going into third or something then you may need a whole new box :)

I'm based in Manurewa but will go anywhere in Auckland that is good.

Looking to spend about $300.

Sorry what I mean is the car studders when taking off and I've been advised to get an addictive or something to put in, I also have been advised that the transmission can fail if it is not looked after. So I primaily want these checked, the car has 82000kms on it and bought it at 43000kms I haven't really given it a porper service only family helping with replacing the air filter and oils ECT.

I would never add an additive to an engine of any kind. They are snakes oil. No gearbox miracle fix in a bottle, no octane booster, no injector cleaner.

Shudder hey, is this a CVT vehicle? A transmission doesn't exact need looking after, just don't slam it through the gears or tow too much. Mine is a ZF transmission made in 1997 and has done 254,000KM on the original oil/filter and all. Still shifts smooth as butter and doesn't lose much power.

Cheers

If its a CVT Jazz get some xado EX120 and put half a tube of that in when you change the transmission fluid. Honda unofficially recommend it and sell it at some of their stores.

give it 1000kmn or so and it should be good. will work in 90% of cases unless its really gone.

It can also be the front engine mount that's worn. but given the km on it maybe not. my mount was gone at about 140,000km.

Yep, that transmission shudder is a common problem in the Jazz.

Sounds like it could be the fix. But as others said you need to know that this is the fix required and not an engine mount or something else busted. I did say I am not a fan of additive but if Honda NZ suggest to use it then I would give it a pass.

I'd be curious as to what is in the additive and why it fixes it rather than an oil/filter change. Must just thicken the fluid so it provides more friction. I'd say an oil change would yield same if not better results..

the surface of the clutch packs on the start clutch's can cause glazing and this causes the shuddering.

"EX120 then coats the treated surfaces with a self-regulating layer of ceramic-metal to protect the transmission from future wear"

As for doing it, its cheap, $70 for a tube and about $80 for new transmission fluid which you will likely need anyway.

So the entire gearbox gets a coating of some "Ceramic", Interesting..

I'll also vouch for replacing the oil after adding some form off coating etc..

How easy is it to change the transmission fluid on my own?

Generally requires a very level hoist, a pump to pump the fluid in, some weird bent wires so you can dip them into the top bungs and see what the level is (Generally needs to be 2MM below the top bung on an Audi/VW) etc, can be a hard job if it is very specific. Or it could be as simple as dropping the fluid and pouring more in until it runs out of the fill hole.

Ok thank you for the information this far, I had the transmission fluid changed at 77100km car is currently at 82000km I will go but that additive from part master and put it in.

Car is having wheel alignment done now at Bridgestone.

Will need to get new brakes also, and recommends on that?

If the studdering isn't solved after 1000kms will look at the transmission mount.

@coil way off the mark there.  no point in speculating.

jack the car up, put the oil pan under the drain bung, remove the dipstick, remove the drain bung, drain, put in drain bung, lower to the ground and refill from the dipstick hole check regurally to make sure it doesn't overfill.

about the hardest thing to do is fill it and getting a funnel with a long enough pipe on it to reach the dipstick hole.

TBH I don't even think you need to jack the car up you can do it with it on the ground and just turn the wheel one way, just need some way of catching the oil.
