Hi

I'm trying to setup OpenAuto Pro in my car, but ideally it needs 12v constant and 12v ignition switched power to safely shutdown.

Does anyone have any ideas on the most accessible way of doing this?

The main fusebox is in the engine bay, so using that would require routing a lot of wire to the cabin (not going to drill holes for obvious reasons).

Thanks

From the back of the stereo is where I have always grabbed power from. If you're not wanting to cut stuff you can find adapter looms around the place that break the power cables out.

As above, use the stereo wires. Although the switched wire normally also switches off when the starter motor is used. So you may need to take an IGN RUN power feed as well. And then combine them with 2 diodes. So you have a control feed that wont have rapid on / off switching happening. Often the hazard light switch is a good source of a IGN RUN power feed.

There will also be a wire from the headlights behind the stereo. Dont fall into the trap of mistaking that wire for a ground wire.

I did the above as well as added a house battery to my van. No more worries about the starting battery going flat due to the stereo. And no more having to wait for bluetooth to re pair, when the engine is started. Also rewired to interior lights and 12V power sockets to the house battery as well.

Thanks guys.

Looks like there's no easy way so will need to consider pulling dash off etc to get the required access.

So I managed to pull the cover off a wiring point in the foot well that looks like this:

The plan is to find a constant 12v in there, and hopefully also find the reversing lights as well to trigger reversing camera.

There will be space in the grommets loom currently in the firewall to run wire.

Be carefull if probing wires with a powerd multi meter you could set off airbags or seatbelt pre tensioners.
The yellow connector in the pic or usually yellow covered cables will be air bag system

@coil using my image, which ones do you think will be ignition and constant?

The bundle coming down from the right seems to have a thickish red and yellow i could tap into..

Or there is a peek of a red bottom left

Also previous poster noted yellow is airbag system....

Sorry I should have said the red and yellow were the power and ignition for the gps tracker. Check what they are spliced to. On mobile so hard to check and confirm right now.

The air bag wires could be any colour but will normally have yellow connectors and external sheething over several wires to identify then
