Check out Scotty Kilmer's video that went live about 12 hours ago. When he says they won't last 100000 miles he means without major problems.

To save you time they are:

1. Range Rover

2. Chevy Cruze (Presume it's very similar to Holden Cruze)

3. Fiat 500

4. Nissan Altima

5. Mini

The common threads in this litany of low quality seem to be blown head gaskets, multiple electronics problems, cheap wiring, cvt transmissions. Oh well, give the video (9 minutes) a watch it might save someone making a costly mistake!

Are u sure Nissan shouldn't be Audi, And they obviously never have owned a Mercedes or Bmw

Speak for yourself – my 2003 BMW has 205,000 km (just shy of 130,000 miles) on the clock and the engine is in perfect nick.

Also, have you ever wondered why many taxis in Europe are Mercedes? The engines last forever and ever.

I always look at the dog and lemon guide., as that is spot on with the problems I have had with European built cars. For many it listed all the problems I had, central locking died early, dashlights fail quickly. All are expensive faults to get repaired in NZ as often only the dealer can do the work and they appear to be able to charge what they like. Just to get a few dashboard lights replaced was about $1k. Generally I have had good experiences with japanese built cars, except for some of the software that is now built into their onboard user interfaces. GPS systems built into cars tend to suck compared to dedicated units like the tom tom ones.

i think hes talking about American models of those cars. the european models are likely better quality.

My Mercedes Vito is up to 376,000k. And it is a commonrail diesel. Still has good compression, all of the glow plugs work. Although 1 of the injectors is on the way out. Still drives fine, only know about the injector due to checking the idle balance compensation values. (The ECU adjusts the fuel delivery on a per injector basis to keep the idle smooth).

Have been told that St John keep their Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances up to 400,000k. And afterwards, they probably all get converted into motorhomes. (I know someone who did exactly that. That big rectangle box on the back is an excellent base for converting to a motorhome).

Supposedly the Vitos also get driven completely around the clock 1,000,000+K driving around Russia.

Pretty sure the Altima had the VQ series of engines that won wards best engine design several times.

Yeah but the VW 1.4 TSI won so many awards for being turbo and supercharged, grungy and yet economical. Then after a few years owners started to suffer cracked piston heads and warped cylinder heads en mass.

The engine awards should only be given after 6 years of use. Or however long the initial warranty is.
