Hi

I'm based in Wellington and made a subject to inspection email offer on a private sale vehicle in Auckland. $33,000. Offer accepted.

It's a 2018 Honda CRV Sport 7 (7 seater).
1.5L turbo petrol. CVT.
15,000km
1 NZ owner, purchased new from Honda New Market. April 2018.
Has had one service at 8000km Oct 2018
~ 2.5 yr service plan and ~3.5 yr warranty remaining.

Can anyone recommend an inspection company in Auckland, maybe one that is more familiar with Honda.

I've already done carjam, and will request service record / vehicle history notes etc from Honda.

Right answer, I'd trust a pre-purchase inspection from a OEM dealership over AA etc

We bought a car once that passed an AA pre-purchase inspection with flying colours, only to turn out to be a complete and utter lemon. Eventually got rid of it in disgust, and the buyer got an AA inspection done and guess what - glowing inspection report. We've never used them since.

And to avoid any haters, we sold it very cheap and we were upfront with the buyer about the issues we had encountered.

Agreed, get it into a Honda dealership. Have bought a Subaru and Volkswagen long distance previously, got them checked at Subaru and Volkswagen dealerships respectively.

I bought an AA inspected and approved vehicle, drove it for 6 months before discovering it didn't have an air filter installed...

AA never inspects the car. They just print out a pre-filled report. I know coz I took a car to an inspection and I watched them and half the things they said they did on the report wasn't done and I doubt they actually did anything purposeful on the other half that they may have inspected.

I'm not going to defend the quality of AA inspections, but I'd say you're veering into making potentially libellous claims here; your anecdata, based on a sample of one (or a handful perhaps) doesn't offer the grounds on which to make such a broad and sweeping statement like this.
