So my son (nearly 12) is not a keen cyclist, and currently scooters to/from school. The problem is his current scooter (a typical MGP) is getting quite small for him, and most of the other scooters I've seen around are similarly short in the handlebar.

Can anyone recommend any particular models of decent-quality push scooters that are suitable for teenagers/adults? Budget would be ideally no more than $200.

I'm assuming it's best to get one with an adjustable handlebar column; I'd also be interested in any with larger tyres, given I assume this will help rolling resistance and stability.

This Razor A5 Air caught my eye in that it has pneumatic tyres - https://www.mozzi.co.nz/products/a5-air-scooter-silver

There's also the solid-tyred A5 DLX https://www.catch.co.nz/product/razor-a5-dlx-scooter-silver-2613892/?offer_id=14940098&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgJHBrrya5QIVQ4uPCh26dAsmEAQYASABEgIcR_D_BwE

Or the hideously-named Globber, sold at Rebel - http://www.rebelsport.co.nz/8116986/product.html?_ga=2.48204839.188297071.1571012074-1588200322.1571012074

Any recommendations and advice greatly appreciated.

Can you change the bar on the MGP?

https://www.scooterpro.co.nz/scooter-bars?dir=asc&limit=all&order=price

Also is this for school commuting solely or will it do double duty doing tricks in a park or bowl?

I've got a Micro black,  I scoot with our kids to school on.... which is great,

But you will kill a scooter like that doing tricks and stuff..

I'm an adult and I have an MGP scooter. You can def get them bigger, the only issue is with fairly small wheels if you hit an ant or similar size you crash and die (overly dramatic maybe, however I am late 40s)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Thanks for the replies.

Good to know new bars are an option, however given his scooter will also need new wheels and grip tape, there won’t be much that doesn’t get replaced! Also it can be useful to have an older scooter on-hand for emergencies.

That Micro looks good, but a bit out of our price range; will do some more research and check out other options including taller MGPs. That said, I do like the idea of larger wheels. And, yeah, it’s just for riding to/from school, not tricks.

How does that Razor with pneumatic tyres seem? I can put some Slime in them to reduce the chance of punctures. (I can use the can I bought for my e-scooter months ago and never used - which could have stopped the puncture I got on my scooter on Friday!)

Any other recommendations, for either models or good retailers in NZ?
