So I’m not one to be too surprised at seeing flash cars being on the road, this one caught my attention as it had the distinct ‘T’ logo on the front of a red sports car as well as the TESLA spaced letters on the boot as it drove past.

Did a quick search as I had no idea Tesla were doing this kind of model. Turns it exists and is prototype form in the same colour and shape as what I saw. Impressive speed and estimated 1000km range.

Only thing that looked out of place on the vehicle I saw was a fuel port cover on the left side of the car, where you would normally find it on a ICE. It was otherwise very silent driving past and fit the bill for an electric car.

Is someone taking the mickey and driving around with a Tesla logo slapped on their car or is there a prototype driving around here in NZ? Location was Grafton Road, Auckland. I should have taken a photo but didnt really believe my eyes in time to take a snap.

Edit: after making this post I’ve now found out there were a bunch of ‘Roadsters’ sold between 2008-2012. The one I saw might have been one of these brought over from somewhere.

There was one at Big Boys Toys last weekend.

It looked like a Lotus Elise with a Telsa badge.  SWMBO was thinking Telsa Roadster as a possible next vehicle - but given its looks and the absence of any backseat it would be kiboshed on the evidence I saw.

Yes, the first Tesla Roadster is based on the Lotus Elise chassis. A little more than a rebuild of the Elise, but with a proper door - you have to crawl into the Lotus...

Not driven the Tesla, but I have driven the Lotus Elise and its a fun little car. Bet its even more fun as an EV.
