I am in the process of dealing with a Ford dealer at the moment. And I have managed to score $10,999 of the retail price of the Wildtrak. Bringing the grand some to $59,990. Now I know this is due to the incoming updates on the vehicle... new lights, motorised cover and a few other tweaks.

What do you all think? Good deal, or standard as they will do a run off deal? The dealers chat is trying to imply that they models were discounted to $63/64k the last few months so there is limited stock. Sales pitch?

What dealer and where? That is definitely a sharp deal. I am looking at it myself and doing some negotiations too.

I know which I would rather own and it isn't the Ford!

$59,990 is not bad but not spectacular. I got offered a MY19 for that exact price from a dealer up north a few months ago. And you can easily get a dealer demo for less than that. Avon City Ford recently sold about a half dozen 2019 models for $55k with less than 5000kms on the clock, so the deals are there to be had if you keep an eye on the market and aren't desperate to buy immediately.

Even if you waited for a MY19.75 with the new extras (motorised lid etc) you should still be able to get it for not much more than that $60k price point if you are willing to haggle.

You have two options - go in and try to drive a hard bargain on your own, or use a broker to get a better deal.

I have used www.bestcar.co.nz to procure good deals with fleet level savings on a single purchase.

The current one is 19.75. The one with the motorised lid is 2020.25. I got a dealer to quote me on it and he offered $64,500 (2 litre Bi-turbo option). The RRP has gone up $1000 from the current model. The current model 2019.75 was offered for $60,500. There is also an FX4 with the 2 lite bi turbo incoming with both 4X2 and 4X4 option. Under $50K for 4x2 and $60K was dealers offer. I am yet to negotiate on either of the models. Will decide once I make up my mind which one I want and try to push hard on the bargain.

I've haggled the best I could on this one.

I am not worried about the new updates as I'd rather get the cheaper option unless they were making major upgrades. If I can shave another few k off this deal then I would be very happy - I will check out this bestcar outfit.

I went through this a while ago, Ranger, Hilux, D Max, Navara and was about to buy a Wildtrack then got convinced to take the V6 Amarok out for a drive.

I bought the Amarok. This was despite the price then being about $10k more.

I bought the Amarok. This was despite the price then being about $10k more.

I love the V6 engine of the Amorak and it's permanent 4WD but I do not wish to pay through the nose to have the extras.

This Wildtrak will do me until they bring out the new Ranger/Amorak based on the same drivetrain etc.

And the Bestcar brought back some good quotes but nothing beats my quote from dealers in my area. Perhaps If I searched further away in busier cities it may beat it.

Given the number in daily use in NZ (and the complete lack of any moose) this seems somewhat unlikely...

If one of the two most popular pickups in NZ was a 'death trap' I am fairly sure it would not be that popular....

It tests cars ability to safety maneuver around a pedestrian in an emergency situation.

My understanding is that non UK purchased Hilux's are still one of the only large vehicles to get on 1 wheel, which is very bad unless you're a race car driver.
