Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has the experience/knowledge to help identify if the damage in this photo was caused by a stone?

There is a small dent and this mark on the bonnet. Just received the car and noticed it on the way home.

Caused by me driving or happened prior to ownership?

I've never had a stone chip continue like that. It looks more like something rigid has scratched the paint. Either the car has been driven too far into a garage with junk hanging from ceiling or somebody with something sticking out the back of their vehicle has reversed into the car. It does look new, there's no sign of rust.

Edit Where is it? Another possibility is supermarket trolley.

It is difficult to determine scale from your photo . How long is the scratch?

A stone would bounce off at the impact point. That looks more like applied pressure. But, if it is a small scratch, maybe a stone could do that.

Very unlikely it occurred on your drive home.

What is the scale or length is the scratch?

What are all the other bubble marks in the rest of the photo? Looks like water or paint film lifting.

Looks like a poor paint coating or perhaps the paint is too fresh and hasn't been allowed to harden.

I'll take a photo of my bonnet, I'd had my current car for 50kms when I got a golf ball size rock skid up the bonnet and smack the windscreen. Looks similar to that, plus a bloody dent.

Almost guarantee that was not caused by a stone, not whilst the car was moving, that looks like it was caused when the vehicle had been stationary.

That is moisture on the bonnet this morning.

Ive had plenty of stones hit me in my time, and I hear about it when they do. Heard nothing especially seeing as I have next to no radio signal for a large portion.

I'm going back to the dealer as they are having the vehicle detailed. I can only imagine they blame it on me and will take no responsibility. There is also a dent. I noticed the dent and only noticed the scratch after I got out when I arrived home.

It's not huge but disappointing as I only just got it.

Will see what they say next week.
