TSLA stock, already on a spectacular run, is currently adding 2% in value every 15 minutes! Up 21% today, 5 days ago it wasn't $600 stock - now it's $944 & climbing.

TSLA is the new BTC?

It's a little crazy that a company that has been producing less than 500k cars a year so far is currently valued more than the likes of VW...but I'm here for it!

The new BTC indeed. CNBC reported that the share trading site Robin Hood had 12000 new retail buyers purchase TSLA stock yesterday. It is complete FOMO and absolutely the same as the BTC bubble from 3 years ago. It is all going to end in a screaming heap.

Speculators who’ve bet against Tesla by “short-selling” its stock have already lost $8.3 billion this year, as its price surged Monday to reach a record-high, CNN reports... According to data analysts S3 Partners, $TSLA has more short-sellers than any other U.S. stock, currently controlling more than 18 percent of the company’s publicly available shares.

He he, it is never about today's profit, it is all about perceived potential.

I actually wondered if Telsa was going to implode a while back. They were hemorrhaging money and failing to make production targets. Seems with the new Chinese factory, changes to the US plant and European facilities on the horizon, they are getting stronger. But the share pricing is overblown - some people are going to get burnt sooner or later...

Much as I love Tesla, this is nuts. Especially as china is a big part of their business plan and they are getting hammered by a Virus atm. (Perhaps investors expect an uptick in car sales as is common with concerns about contagious viruses and public transport)

Decades of perfect execution is now priced into their share price, and stuff is very likely to go wrong...

But what do I know... I sold out of Tesla when I tripled my money many years ago, I think the stock has gone up like 8x from the price I sold it at... :(

This is a great opportunity for Tesla to raise more capital though. I think they should do it... Build more gigafactories, vertically integrate their supply chain with strategic acquisitions, and get another design center, with the goal of having a full lineup.

In addition to their current announced lineup (S,X,3, Y, Cypertruck, Semi), they could add:

  • Yaris / bmw i3 sized hatch
  • Corolla / merc A series sized hatchback
  • Small SUV (kona size)
  • Low cost sedan
  • Ranger sized pickup
  • Heavy duty pickup for USA market (please 6wd rather than dual rear wheels)
  • nv200 sized van
  • Kia Carnaville sized minivan (7/8 seat + luggage) .
  • Medium Cargo van (Hyundai iload size)
  • Large minibus 12-18 seat
  • Transit/sprinter sized van / cab chassis / box body
  • Med City Bus (35 seat)
  • 12m long size city bus (50 seat)
  • Double deacker city bus
  • Mid size tour/intercity bus
  • Full size tour/intercity bus
  • Double deck intercity bus
  • Medium rigid truck
  • Large rigid truck

Plenty of things to throw capital as if they can manage it.

There are going to be a number of people who get burnt on this........

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/04/tesla-could-be-a-pure-speculative-stock-bubble.html

"“Tesla has gone parabolic,” said Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak. “The stock is going to get absolutely clobbered at some point before long"

Tesla's biggest problem at the moment isn't that they lack variety, it's that they can't keep up on battery production for current vehicle orders. If you order a Tesla today whether you're in the US or NZ you'll likely be waiting a few months before you get the car.
