The Hazard

On Audi A1, Audi A3 and Audi TT vehicles with 7-speed dual clutch gearbox manufactured within a specific period, it is possible that a component inside the mechatronic unit may fail due to manufacturing discrepancies. This may cause a pressure drop in the mechatronic unit, which in turn may result in the interruption of the power flow between the engine and the gearbox.

What to do

The owners of affected vehicles will be notified in writing.

This recall was first issued in about Sept last year. Friends had their A3 replacement mechatronic unit recall work done in early March.

Obviously not all owners attended to it because was issued again today.

Interesting because Audi NZ played silly buggers over this whole thing. There were thousands of cars to be done and for whatever reason, the dealers were only able to do a limited number each day or week. People had to wait four or five months to get it done then, at least in the case I know about, the dealer tried to cancel or postpone the work two days before the appointment.

If an owner needed to pay for this work, the component is very expensive and the total job costs about $5k.

The was an identical recall for a big list of VW cars. One VW car I know of was booked in October for the work to be done in March. That was postponed the day before it was due to be done and has still not been done.

Just show how many dealers don't care really.

My wife got a notification in October last year. The letter said that a local dealer would be in touch to arrange a time for the work to be done. We haven't heard anything since. Looks like we may have to get in touch with them.

Familiar story. For the Audi and VW I mentioned above, the owners never heard from the dealers after the first letter and had to chase up themselves.
