Doing a new house build that will have a 6kw solar array and powerwall also. I want to get an EV charger (for Tesla model 3 but potentially others) that is smart and able to use excess power when powerwall and house usage is in excess supply. Any ideas on what charger to get?

I have installed the Tesla charger at work so want a charger at home also.

No personal experience with this charger but I have seen it reviewed and written about a lot over last few years and I think might fit what you are looking for.

Zappi smart EV charger.

I think I have seen somewhere that there are NZ distributers.

I have a powerwall but when I got it I didnt have an EV. If I had I would have got this inverter https://www.solaredge.com/products/ev-charger#/

you do know you would be limited by the output of the inverter on the solar system

Teslas can charge at 32A single, 2 phase or 3 phase. When I've had them on powerwalls or any inverter I've dialled the charger down as 32A will make the inverter max out and probably go into a protection reboot loop. You can have it set to charge at a lower amperage, at least with the Tesla charger.

Looks like a great way to have a useless brick of power electronics in 5 years, given it has to connect to their servers before starting to do anything.

Unfortunately, modern Tesla's are limited to 16a on 3 phase AC (max of 11kW). Older Model S that have the dual charger upgrade can do 32a 3 phase though.
