This is what the Nissan 370Z replacement might look like ...

Nissan Z Proto

Surprised Nissan has the resources to pour into a sports car.

I imagine the margin on them is better than their "bread and butter" cars/SUVs- so they probably do more than break even

Tis why Tesla started with luxury sports cars and has been working its way down the pile towards increasingly mundane cars.

Realistically there isn't that much in the way of "resources" going into it.
Technically it's an evolution rather than an revolution. It's (almost) the same underpinnings as the 370z and rumouredly the engine from one of their Infinity brand cars, so really just a new body work. Even internally the driving cabin is very similar to the 350z / 370z.

The Z sportscars are the "cheap" end / mid-range, unlike their GTR supercar.

Sadly the GTR is never going to win any beauty contests.
