I got one of those too about a fortnight ago.
It is superficially quite convincing, except for the WK/NZTA logo was too large and didn't resize, it just ran off the edge of the window.

 

I reported it to CERT NZ and they said "This is a recurring phishing campaign pretending to be the NZTA. Unfortunately, this campaign is very sophisticated, and many New Zealanders have been affected by it".

I always make sure I click on the link and enter my credit card details, just in case it's real...you know - to be sure I don't lose my licence plate number.

i have got it twice luckily both times after i had just renewed for real so everything from the expire date to the amount was wrong
