Hello all,

Not sure if this is in the right forum?

Looking to purchase a dash cam asap & were wondering if anyone had any recommendations, advice, tips etc.

Price range - would like to keep it under $200(camera only, i can grab an SD card from PB Tech etc).

Thanks in advance, have a great Sunday.

I’d probably go for the Viofo A119 v3 for $199. 1440p/30fps and has good quality video for the price

I'd highly recommend getting one that has an add-on to allow it to record while you're parked. While a dashcam is great to show fault if you're in an accident, I think they really shine for catching damage done to your car while you're parked and there are often no other witnesses. As an example, while parked in a carpark, someone backed into my car and left some nice scrapes on my rear bumper. However, the dashcam recorded them so I made a claim to my insurance company with their rego and when I included the video that showed they were at fault my excess was waived.

I know Blackvue have parking modules and are generally good dashcams but I'm sure there are others around too.

Agreed with this, parking mode is very useful given how many people don't know how to park and bang your car with their doors.

Also don't buy normal microSD card's the dash cam kill them, get a high endurance one, I personally have a blackvue DR650S and it does not like Sandisk or Transcend high endurance I found Samsung ones to be the best and more reliable I have had one for 4 years now without fault. You can get them on Amazon, PBTech used to have them but they don't sell them anymore.

You may notice a lot of normal microsd cards have their warranty waived if you use in a dashcam.

Forgot to mention, of the parking mode I use this: https://www.amazon.com/VicoVation-Vico-Power-Battery-Discharge-Prevention/dp/B00ZPLSITE they have sadly gone out of business.

You can also use this: https://drivercam.co.nz/products/blackvue-power-magic-pro?_pos=1&_sid=fd6023a6c&_ss=r

Also look at installing it yourself it's really not that hard if I can do I'm sure anyone can. :) good luck.

If you’re Auckland based I highly recommend Alex from drivercam

Had him install a A129 Pro Duo with Bi-750 battery in my car, drove up from Wellington (combined with other things I had to do in Auckland)
