I have a Toyota HiAce  jap import that has been converted into a campervan.  It has the original stereo.  I have added a second stereo to the van and wondering if I can connect the aerial for the new stereo to the old aerial using some sort of splitter. The original stereo to be used whilst driving and the new one to be used when camping. Thanks!

A 2-way splitter will provide slightly less than half the signal level to each radio.  For a car radio, that is likely to be a bad thing, resulting in much worse reception when further from the transmitters.  It is commonly done in houses, especially with TV aerials, but there it relies on the high level of signal available, so that half the signal is still fine and well within the specifications of the receiver.

There are boosters made for car radios for ones with terrible tuners in them that will bring the signal level up to cover any splitting, but when I had one in my nissan back in the days because it had crap reception because of its factory stereo having diversity tuning and no aftermarket stereo doing that.

It would crap out in the city when close to the transmitter once I put it in, but it was fine when out in the suburbs.

This was pre aliexpress so I overpaid for it on that large local popular trading site.

I have not seen a splitter pre terminated with the motorola plug that is still used on all aftermarket car stereos, I would be hesitant to use anything made for home TV splitting with F connectors and try to put plugs on things since F connectors need a solid core cable to connect and thats not something that will be found on a cable for car use.

Thread title is doing my head in.

If your car stereo is feeding anything INTO your aerial you have a problem

😆

It's the aerial that does the feeding
