There's a beat up car with 5 months expired WOF and 2 months expired Rego parked on the street and still daily driven. I doubt it will pass WOF. Obviously the driver has been fortunate not to get caught while "endangering" other road users on a daily basis. What actions can be taken against the car/owner? I've been through 111, *555, Auckland Council but it's a merry go round and probably low on their priority. Is there a local parking warden that visits suburban streets?

It's not abandoned so you will have almost zero recourse I would say.

All they could do it ticket it for no rego or warrant.

Report to the local council. They can ticket it and possibly can tag it for removal (no AVL) means not entitled to be on the road.

It has to abandoned before the council can remove it - the definition of abandonment varies council to council

If its daily driver its not abandoned

in the UK they immediately tow for not Tax or MOT and either sell or crush it within 14 days

Not much else you can do.

Last year someone told me that mobile speed camera vans would be replaced by fixed cameras. I wouldn't be surprised if that lead to continuous checking against WoF and Licence databases and consequent ticketing.

In Christchurch a Warden told me this week "Don't bother calling them in - we are too busy!"

I don’t see the connection - why do fixed cameras make a difference as to what can be checked compared to mobile cameras?

I don't know how connected the vans are. The fixed locations are on line.

You've tried 111 already? Perhaps pick up a new hobby or something to take your mind off it.

It's not an abandoned car. Depending who you call in council, you get different answers. One said to request a warden within the hour if the car is there (although they came the next day when it wasn't). Another said they were too busy and said unless it was illegally park, they can't do anything.

Coincidentally, right after I posted this, the parking warden was seen ticketing the car. 2 fines to surprise the owner in the morning. I guess council actually did something this time!

Why didn't you leave a note on their windscreen asking if they needed help with their car before throwing the owner to the lions.

I know the owner takes a risk that they might receive a fine everytime they drive the car, but do you take the same action with every car you see that doesn't have a current registration or WOF?

I had a car fail a WOF because the a small indicator cover had fallen off from the front quarter panel. Was I 'endangering' other road users by not having it there? No. But it sure was a PITA to source a replacement.

Great, the car/owner received a ticket. Now what? Sounds very NIMBY.

105 would be appropriate. 111 would not.

Sadly it will be a low priority issue until it's involved in some other issue that's more serious. Until it does some harm, it's not doing any harm.

As I wander around the city I see cars with expired reg or wof all the time. It's not our problem to police this, youve notified the authorities, that's all you can do. I'd try very hard to move on.

AT would probably be best bet, but considering they wont even abide by their own bylaws, I doubt anything will happen with it.
