Hi Team,

My car with only 1300kms is back at the dealer for the third time due to the same rattle in the boot.

When does it get to a point where I should just give the car back? I have serious doubts they'll be able to fix it permanently.

The rattle seems to be coming from the rear right, any ideas what this could be?

Funny, because my Cerato GT has an annoying rattle that I have traced to the glovebox lid.  It's going in for first service in a few weeks and I'll get them to look at it, but confidence is low.  It's always difficult, because making the rattles happen on demand is difficult.

Possibly silly question, but have you tried extending the rubber bushes on the boot lid slightly so that they are squashed more when the lid is shut?  That sometimes stops a rattly boot

Interesting, awesome car but yeah the boot has been adjusted - dealer has heard the rattle but are struggling to find it. took everything out of the boot too to see if anything in the back would make a difference, I wonder if there is something in the tailgate itself sadly.

Annoying. Keep at them, they'll fix it.

I had a squeak in my suspension (Kia Sportage). They sorted it, but it took them 3 days, and they removed all the rear suspension.

Turned out it was a small stone or something had got on top of the damper. They wanted to charge me for driving it on an unsealed road. I just told them they could have the car back if I couldn't take it off sealed roads (I had bought the AWD model to take the boat to the bach). I didn't have to pay, wasn't even much of an argument :)

I can understand how frustrating that is, but I wouldn't think it's the sort of major defect that would allow you to reject to vehicle and ask for a refund.

Is your tool locker in the right rear (they often are) that would be place to look for rattles.  Another frequent offender is the parcel tray and associated fastenings and fixtures

Can you characterise the rattle: E.g. Is it a metallic rattle, a soft thumpy rattle, a sharp high frequency rattle ...

Not a major fault so not able to reject.  Keep on them for a fix.  Have found Kia to be very good to deal with personally.

You're lucky they paid. I doubt you'd win a court case over this. Unless there is a defect in the car, but doesn't sound like it.

Could it be your licence plate? Sometimes they only bolt at the top leaving the bottom to flap about if the bolts are not tight or too long.

Call the manager, explain you are frustrated that you've been back 3 times in 1300 KM's and you want it fixed. Ask them to arrange a suitable loaner and tell him you don't want it back until they are 100% certain they have found and fixed the issue.

Don't lose your rag, but be firm.

You don't have a suitable case for rejecting the entire car, but you do have a perfectly reasonable expectation your car shouldn't rattle.

Check the storage of the towing ring. Wrap it in cloth

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

If you mean the eye bolt that screws into the front, wouldn't that have a storage place usually with the jack and wheel brace?

In our Suzuki that is a polystyrene insert in the spare wheel. I have all sorts of other stuff loose under the boot floor that never makes a sound. The muffler is suspended in a way that can get pushed up and sit too close to the subframe. That definitely rattles until pulled down.

Looks like the dealer has been able to resolve most of it.

What they did to the right side (wrap more foam around the taillight connector) needs to be done on the left side as slightly noisy but not annoying.

Now that its quiet in the cabin, I can hear one in the front. Are dash rattles common on new cars? If so any way to try pinpoint it?

I find a lot of rattles and squeaks exacerbated by loose chip road surfaces   :(
