My wife is picking up a new shopping trolly (Nissan Note E-Power).  It comes with the factory Japanese's stereo with integrated backing camera and maps of Japan.  Does anyone have any recommendations of a Android Auto capable aftermarket head unit that I could replace this with?  Looking for something cheap that doesn't crap out, has backing camera support and android auto (wired is fine).

I had one of these blaupunkt had units fitted in my wife's car. It isn't the greatest sound, but everything works and it supports Android auto and apple car play
The installer connected to the existing reversing camera and also to the steering wheel controls

Thank you, am Chch based and have used those guys for installs before.  Are you using this wired or wireless with android auto?  Also can you confirm that with this setup you can use voice control to drive google maps?  What I buy has to be better than the Joying android head unit I have in my car.  I love it but it's also a laggy mess.

If you need wireless AA try one of these. https://www.aawireless.io/

The one I linked to is only wired android auto (at least that's all I've ever used or been aware of). Voice control works fine, the installer put a microphone on top of the steering column which seems a good place. We're just using the factory Ipsum speakers which aren't amazing quality but for a shopping trolley the unit would be OK I think. The radio reception is quite good also

Thanks, not stressed about wireless because I assume it's laggy and drops connection occasionally like everything else wireless.  I will go chat to those installer guys.

One problem with wireless is battery drain - Android Auto can suck power from your phone, to the extent that it will usually charge only slowly when plugged in.  In my experience, an hour or two of AA use will flatten a phone battery if it's not plugged in. I'm quite happy to plug my phone in when driving, because I know that when I arrive, I'll have charge in the battery.  I guess if you have a wireless charging location (my current car has this but not wireless AA), this wouldn't be a problem.  But there's no way I'd fit wireless AA to a car without wireless charging

I wouldn't be bothered with AA unless it was wireless. Can't be bothered faffing around plugging the phone in each time I get in. I do have wireless charging but don't use it at the moment.
