Lent a car to friend who is now back overseas. Got a letter for a speeding ticket, they were driving.

Happy to pay the fine but don't want the ticket in my name I guess ...

Anyone with experience in this matter? I am thinking of going to the police station to ask them to put it against their record and not mine, maybe ask for the photo that came with the ticket, any other suggestions?

On the letter they send out, I believe that there is a process documented to transfer the ticket. I suspect that is probably the only reliable way to ‘transfer’ a ticket.

If it is a speed camera issued ticket, it won’t carry any demerits so is a financial penalty only. If it was an officer issued ticket, it will, but should be issued in the drivers name.

Most of the photos wont show clearly who is driving, especially if its a nice picture of the back of your car.

Without attempting to go through the fine transfer process (linked), I think you will struggle to get the ticket out of your name... even if you took it to court.

Here's a novel idea - follow the published process.

The driver is the person who should a) pay the fine and b) have the record of that infringement notice associated with their record.

I didn't think you got demerits for speed camera tickets? Or has that changed?

I believe this is true, and other than the registered owner being liable for the fine, there's no blemish on any driving record.

Send the ticket to the person driving and if they don't pay it with apologies, de-friend them.

No demerits for camera tickets. Simplest way to remember is, they're issuing the infringement to the car via rego, not the holder of the drivers license.

Simple:  Fill out the the declaration on the back of the ticket, provide the drivers details, get the declaration notarized (JP) and return to the Infringement Bureau.  The instructions on how to do this are actually written on the ticket.
