I saw heresy today ... an awful thing ...

A lovely new Lotus Eletre with a fricking towbar fitted to it!  And not even a discrete one you can remove, nope, looked just like a cheap old "I got some bloke to make it" one  ... Colin Chapman will be rolling in his grave!

I saw a Porsche (one of the 911 variants) with a towbar on a few weeks ago, towing a teardop mini-caravan.

First thing I thought was "I wonder how long it'll be before it starts to sway?".

Apparently 22" wheel versions can be supplied with a typical euro electrically retractable tow ball. Maybe it's to make it easier to heave onto the recovery truck 😋

Almost as bad as the time I saw a BMW M5 towing a caravan.

How many millions for a factory towbar though?   Factory ones can be a joke for how expensive they are.

Electronically retracting towbars are unlikely to be cheap.

Polestar charges NZ$3000 for their 1500kg rated one on the polestar 2. (they do have a cheaper non electronic option).

For a 2250kg rated one on a high end, non China car, I would not be surprised by a price around $6k

As opposed to < $500 for a tow bar express one (was $360 when I got mine, manually removable) - Assumed some inflation

I don't care!  It's wrong!!!!! :-)

Lotus is supposed to be light weight, handle like physics has been given an exemption from applying and fall to bits when you look at them to hard!

If nothing else that looks handy to warn off drivers following too closely.

I think they throw a lot of lotus DNA out the door the moment they make it an SUV, same with the Urus, Purosangue, DBX etc.

To be fair I don't have an issue with a tow bar on anything really. If I had an M5 I'd rather have a towbar on it than have to have another SUV/Ute just to tow stuff.

Besides, some M5s have a stonking great V10 in them. Surely they'd be great for towing!
