Two of the purple Beam scooters are parked on both sides of the street on the footpaths. Have been there obstructing people walking for over a week now and very dangerous as not lit. Rang them but only an answer phone.

I suspect some angry person may soon push them down a cliff.

How does one get rid of them.

Where? If in Auckland, Beam has been told to remove them by 5pm Friday.

Same problem around here with Lime scooters, was out for a run a few days ago before dawn and almost came a cropper because one had been left on the footpath but deep in the shadow of a tree.

I've had to get out of the car and move them out of my driveway before... damn annoying.

I just toss them into bushes, a grass verge, or over a bank. They are very heavy, so able bodied people should do this whenever they encounter one that could pose an obstruction to anyone elderly or disabled.

Pretty sure all the ride apps have a problem report function.

Pretty sure the complainers in this thread (e.g. me) do not use the apps and don't think it's our job to download various apps to report errant scooters

Especially if the apps require you to create an account before you can do anything (I haven't looked, but modern software has made me cynical).

I agree, these scooters are a bloody nuisance lying all over the footpaths.

The hirers just dropping them wherever they feel like are the main problem. Having said that, many footpaths don't really have somewhere suitable that a conscientious user could safely leave the scooter.

Wouldn't be too upset if they all disappeared.

Decided to call the Council. They said they would report it so let’s see how long it will take.

I did try to move it a few days ago after the wind or an embattled pedestrian may have attacked it and it was lying across the path again.

Having wicked images of a souped up Stock Car attaching both to a tow bar and dragging them screeching and sparking around the course. Have been the victim of a few near knock-overs so feel distinct animosity towards them.

Why is a discarded scooter not considered 'fly-tipping'?

Wellington City Council has also temporarily suspended Beam's licence as of midnight tonight.

OMG I feel guilty did I help instigate this.

Maybe if they were properly policed and riders got an automatic parking fine when they are left lying across a footpath causing ACC claims. The onus should be on the driver to park them safely. That’s not always easy in hilly, high wind Wellington.

Also if they were picked up within a half day of their being used and not left for weeks in the suburbs.

I personally hate them after narrowly escaping being knocked over by a speeding one on a footpath but I do feel sympathy for the young ones that use them as a method of moving around. It’s a case of you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

It's but one option as a solution to the OP problem.  Is your preference for them to be removed completely?

Personally, I would love to see them banned completely. Paris has already done it.

I had to remove another one when I was out on my run this morning. It was right in the middle of the footpath.
