Well a trick I use in my Honda Jazz (Android Auto), is to move the gear selector to neutral instead of park. That way when I push the ignition button, it kills the engine and turns everything off except for the head unit. It does beep at me, so obviously doing it under protest. The only downside is, to then turn everything off, I need to select park, push the ignition button twice - once will light up the dashboard. Second push turns everything off. It's not as complicated as it sounds - but no idea if it will work for you.

Who installed it? It hasn't been installed properly if it won't turn on on accessories. There's normally a red wire that should be connected to accessories and a yellow wire that is connected to a constant power source to maintain settings.

Yip. We’ve got Android head units in both our cars and they work on accessory power.

Based on the pinout diagram, this wire is for ACC (accessories) power.

The black cable to the right of it is GND (ground) and above that is the PWR (power) cable, possibly yellow. Would need a photo from the other side of the connector to confirm. I suggest unplugging the black connector and then using a multimeter (if you have one), probe the red and black cables to confirm there is actually power on that pin when the car is turned on to ACC.

I found this installation video on Youtube. I'm not sure if this is the same model Qashqai etc, but I noticed the headunit only turned on when the dash and climate control turned on. Which to me, means the car is not in ACC, but ON.

The orange wire is the lamp detect wire so the stereo goes into dark mode when the headlights are turned on.

If you're not getting voltage on the red ACC wire then this will be the issue. You can check the connections at the white plugs to make sure the pins are seated correctly, and a pin isn't pushed back into the connector or is misaligned. You could also probe the pins on the white plug to find the ACC wire. It might mean you need to re-pin one of the connectors to move the ACC (red) wire to the correct location. You could simply tap into the red wire and run a line to the fuse box, then use a fuse tap on the ACC fuse.

If this all sounds too difficult, take your car to a car stereo installer or auto electrician and they'll easily fix it for you.
