is that the model with the onboard charger issue ? they havn't made a fix for that yet ?

as far as brands go, century is usually good. i have some koba batteries that have been good as well.

brands like century make sort of inbetween batteries, like an agm but more reliable. because agm's and efb's tend to be expensive and don't last long. so its interesting the agm's are lasting longer which makes me wonder what the issue is with the onboard charger.

Sounds like a warranty issue. Can you go back to the Kia dealer?

Go to Marshall or Century Yusa down the wharf and they will sort you out.

Plenty of north American brands

Not fixed. Still dropping like flies. Everyday a couple of people saying kia US have bought their 1-3 year old  car back under US lemon law whatever that is. Do we have a lemon law here that would be good.

Something about phantom battery drain is the theory. Car not sleeping perhaps. Dealer here says lock car every night and put key in Faraday cage.

Yup they want me to pay 260 for a new battery because my battery is cheap sheet. Their words. Why would I pay for another piece of that.

Which car do you have? The battery problem in the USA models appears to be due to their app access to control aspects of the car 24/7. Whilst the traction battery does charge the 12V battery as required for their models, the constant drain on a crap battery I'd likely the cause.

there's a big price difference, eg century vs jaycar is over 2x the price for the same capacity

i think i'll just bring it to my trusted local autosparky and install what he recommends

they make a range of batteries.

however the bigger problem is finding what will fit. i had a quick look at whats available for kia ev's and it looks like its a DIN mounted battery which limits your options a fair bit unless you can mod the car to fit "normal" batteries. it would be helpful to know the model/year and see what battery style it takes. also worth measuring the battery box to see what size limits there is.

i think you mean parasitic rather than phantom drain. for conventional (non-EV) vehicles, auto-sparkies are good at hunting this/these down. no idea what it's like for EVs. anyway, you may have already come to realise that car batteries, apart from capacity, CCA rating, etc. also come in different shapes and sizes, as well as terminal types and terminal positions. below is Exide's terminology:
