G'day all

Looking at signing up to Zilch, an hourly hire company that has EVs in some major centres. Part of the signup process is apparently me sending them photos of back and front of Driver ID, so thought I should push pause and see if anyone has gone through with this and had any issues.

Cheers

Pretty much all the "hire by the hour" crowd require this,

I certainly remember having to do it for cityhop, its no different from having to physically show your license when hiring a regular car by the day...

I guess the question is do you believe/trust Zilch's data retention/protection....

No company will give you a car without a copy of your license.  Review their privacy policy and other published compliance information if you're concerned, then you can make an informed decision.

No issues with signup. Did have to submit ID, but as others mentioned, that's pretty standard for any rental company.

I prefer Mevo for most usage - I only use Zilch if I'm in Christchurch. The web interface is clunkier, and having to book with a specific start and end time is less convenient than Mevo.

Hey all

Yeah my push pause moment was more them asking for pictures of it rather than me entering it into a database form and looking into a webcam to prove it's me. The expected manual handling of the information just triggered the hairs on my neck.

If no one has had issue with them then all good, just thought this was a good spot to check with the nerd clan

Did look at alternatives like Mevo, but CHCH is the most likely place I'd travel to and not have a rental for work, hence Zilch

I signed up this morning as we need a vehicle in Christchurch next week, but after being able to login initially and providing my drivers license, my login doesn't work anymore, password reset doesn't work. So far, not a great experience.

I had a similar experience, the app still works but my portal access does not. IIRC I saw an email about my profile being on hold pending identify verification.

My experience with Mevo and CityHop are the same. Take a picture of front/back plus a selfie. No issues.

Zilch seems to be aiming for the corporate market with vehicle leasing, rather than individuals.

ASB is one of a few companies I've seen using their service.

My company car is a Zilch managed EV.
I had a similar signup process as the average punter when we started using them - copies of licence etc.
They then send a monthly report of all my driving habits/destinations and my licence status to myself and my organisation.

There's nothing wrong with them from an organisational perspective and whenever I have had to deal with them, they've been prompt, professional and courteous.
